Last month we took a much needed week long family vacation and went to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. Fairfield Bay is in the foothills of the Ozark mountains and on the shores of Greers Ferry Lake, home to beautiful mountain scenery and some of the best trout fishing in the country (on the Little Red River and on the White River coming off of Greers Ferry Lake). While there we took a boat to Sugarloaf Mountain, an uninhabited island in the middle of the lake, to do some hiking. Brett carried Wes in the baby backpack, but Jennifer and Gabe amazed us as they hiked steep terrain to the top of the mountain where we had a family picnic lunch. We also took a cave hike several days later and explored some nooks and crannies of incredible rock cut outs. On Wednesday, Jennifer and Jill took a painting class from a local artist and came home with Calla Lily masterpieces. On Thursday, we took a peaceful family horseback trail ride. Gabe and Wes rode with mommy and daddy, but Jennifer was very proud to ride her own horse. On Friday we went to Blanchard Springs Caverns, a magnificent and extensive cavern network full of every type of stalagtite and stalagmite formations imaginable. The kids were mesmerized by room after room of these lit wonders (it ranks one of the top ten caverns in North America). Other than that we did some fishing, went to a national fish hatchery (very interesting to be able to show the kids the life cycle of a fish), went bowling, and of course found the best local playground.

It is so fun to see you as a mom! You have such a beautiful family. This sounds like a great vacation. Do you like TN? I'm so happy to have found you again. I always loved you! What great memories we have of our time together in Washington! :) I hope all is well with you! Your house is beautiful too.
