Edisto Island

After Brett finished his exams we escaped to Edisto Island to vacation for a week before Christmas. It is a residential island full of the ambiance of the Old South complete with hundreds of gnarled oak trees covered in Spanish moss. We spent our days biking the many miles of pristine and isolated trails that traverse the island, mini golfing (the kids loved this!), touring the marshes, touring Charleston, and picnicking on the beach. We also had fun gathering shells together; Edisto has an area called Jeremy’s Inlet which boasts some of the best shell collecting on the east coast. The inlet is only accessible by a 45 minute hike up the beach; on our walk we found two whole sand dollars and no fewer than ten complete conch shells.
